Forest ecology

This book presents the study of ecosystem ecology in the forest management context and provides a framework from which ecological concepts can be applied to day-to-day forest management activities. The book is divided into three major parts. Part I discusses the demands placed on the forest by increased population growth. Part II is divided into five sections: ecosystem function, genetic and evolutionary aspects of ecosystems, physical factors, biotic factors and ecosystem changes. Part III contains three chapters dealing with classification systems, the application of mathematical models and the philosophy of resource management in the ecosystem context.
