Several years of research effort have identified problems and formed some solutions for safe, efficient mine hoisting from deep levels. Arrestment devices for man conveyances, light-weight skips, guide alignment, hoist ropes, energy absorption systems, and hoisting facilities are discussed. Experimental static and instrumented dynamic studies were performed using the free fall test facility at the Colorado School of Mines. A computer program was written to calculate the dynamic response. The dynamic tests were instrumented to measure and record decelerations, movements, strains, and loads.
