Laser-induced fluorescence was used to detect CH{sub 3}S radicals in the laser flash photolysis of CH{sub 3}SH-O{sub 3}-H{sub 2}O-He (SF{sub 6}) mixtures. Evidence was found for a reaction between CH{sub 3}S and O{sub 3}, with a rate coefficient (4.1 {plus minus} 2.0) {times} 10{sup {minus}12} cm{sup 3} molecule{sup {minus}1} s{sup {minus}1}. The yield of CH{sub 3}S from the reaction OH + CH{sub 3}SH was determined to be 1.1 {plus minus} 0.2. Our results suggest that the CH{sub 3}S + O{sub 3} reaction could be the major sink for CH{sub 3}S in the atmosphere.
