Observation of magnetic ordering in superconducting La/sub 2-//sub x/Sr/sub x/CuO/sub 4/ by muon spin rotation

Muon spin rotation experiments performed on superconducting La/sub 2-//sub x/Sr/sub x/CuO/sub 4/ samples clearly show that internal magnetic fields coexist at low temperatures (T<2 K) with superconductivity for xless than or equal to0.15. The magnetic fields in the superconducting state are an order of magnitude smaller than the corresponding fields in undoped La/sub 2/CuO/sub 4/. The data are discussed in the context of a magnetic pairing mechanism in high-T/sub c/ superconductors.
