Re-Fe-B alloy ingots can be hot-rolled into aligned magnets. This presentation describes a study of the magnetic alignment and magnetic properties of the (Pr[sub 1[minus]x]Nd[sub x])-Fe-B magnets using an X-ray diffraction method, a magnetic domain observation and the measurement of magnetization. The grain size of the ingot increases with increase of the Nd content (x). As x increases, it becomes more difficult for the magnetic alignment to turn upward toward the surface during hot rolling. Although, the coercive force of the magnets monotonically decreases with x, the energy products of 38MGOe remain unchanged up to 60% of Nd. Finally, the alignment of easy magnetization axes and the magnetic properties are affected by the grain size.
