The crystal structure of the heptavalent neptunium compound K/sub 3/NpO/sub 4/(OH)/sub 2/.2H/sub 2/O was determined. The crystals are monoclinic, and the crystal lattice parameters are as follows: a = 0.774(3), b = 0.786 (3), c = 0.840 (4) nm, ..gamma.. = 119.5 (3)/sup 0/, space group P2/sub 1//a, Z = 2, rho/sub calc/ = 3.66 g/cm/sup 3/. The structure was determined by means of three-dimensional x-ray photographic data by the heavy atom method and was refined by the method of least squares in anisotropic approximation (1227 reflections, R = 0.118). The structure is composed of complex anions (NpO/sub 4/(OH)/sub 2/)/sup 3 -/, K/sup +/ cations, and molecules of water of crystallization. The centrosymmetric complex anion (NpO/sub 4/(OH)/sub 2/)/sup 3 -/ has the form of an almost regular tetrahedral bipyramid with four oxygen atoms at the base and with the oxygen atoms of the OH groups at the vertices in the axial direction. The four paired Np-O distances are 0.191 and 0.188 nm, and the Np-O/sub (OH)/ distance is 0.240 nm.
