Offshore Greece may develop into new marine theater
A 5-company group with Colorado Greece Oil Corp. as operator has a drillship under contract for a program of delineation drilling following a recent gas-condensate strike off Thasos Is. in the N. Aegean Sea. The group has drilled 2 wildcats on its Aegean Sea acreage and has found hydrocarbons in both. Immediate plans are to confirm Miocene sand gas-condensate pays tapped last Jan. by 1 South Kavala. The tectonics of the N. Aegean Sea (showing the S. Kavala discovery well) is illustrated. Also, well logs of the productive section are shown. A contour map (contoured on the 5,420 ft sand) of the S. Kavala structure is illustrated. The S. Kavala structure is mapped as a closed anticline undergirded by a salt pillow. It is coincident with a zone of Miocene sand pinchouts against a pre-Miocene basement equivalent high. A brief discussion of the general geology of the basin is described.
