Method and apparatus for controlling electronically controlled transmissions

A method is described of controlling an electronically controlled transmission of a vehicle during an abrupt depression of an accelerator pedal to accelerate the vehicle. The transmission has an actuator for a gear changing operation controlled by an electronic control device for changing gear ratios. The method comprises: (a) monitoring the speed of depression of an accelerator pedal; (b) detecting when the speed of depression of the accelerator pedal exceeds a predetermined value; (c) locking a gear changing operation when the speed of depression of the accelerator pedal exceeds the predetermined value; and (d) effecting the gear shifting operation after the speed of the depression of the accelerator pedal is less than the predetermined value.
