Parametric systems studies of TNS Tokamaks

The results of parametric systems studies of a Power Generating Fusion Reactor (PGFR) proposed for TNS are reported. The cost of incorporating ignition margin by designing for operation at a reduced ignition beta is given. The additional costs are modest (approximately 10%) down to an ignition beta of 6% with increasing cost increments at lower betas. The basis for the selection of the 3.6m PGFR reference design parameters is given, and the sensitivity of the design to the number of TF-coils, the burn time, the duty factor, and the inboard shield material is presented.
