The standard free energies of formation of spherical (..delta..G /SUB s/ /sup 0/) and nonspherical (..delta..G /SUB N/ /sup 0/) micelles and of the asymmetrization of the spherical micelles (..delta..G /SUB a/ /sup 0/), as well as the concentrations of spherical and nonspherical micelles and surfactant molecules not associated in micelles, have been calculated from experimentally determined values of the degree of ionization of molecules of hexadecylpyridinium chloride aggregated in micelles in an aqueous solution, the dielectric constant of the micelles, the surface area of the micelles per surfactant molecule, and the dimensions and aggregation numbers of the micelles. The decrease in ..delta..G /SUB a/ /sup 0/ with increasing concentrations of the surfactant in the solution is caused mainly by the decrease in the degree of ionization of the micelles.
