Uranium deposits in metamorphic environments

Book ·
OSTI ID:6811489
This pamphlet describes uranium deposits, major occurrences and prospects, throughout the world which have been influenced by metamorphism. In addition to deposits in identifiable host rocks, properties within metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks, where metamorphism is evident, are also included. For the majority of deposits, the uranium is not related to igneous activity, but has been remobilized and concentrated during metamorphism. Uranium resources in metamorphic environments are estimated to contain ca 30% of the world's total resources. The largest resources are contained in the unconformity vein-type of deposits located in Australia and Canada. Attention is being focused on the discovery of geologically similar deposits in other countries. This type of deposit will become a major source of production in the 1980's. In the USA, U resources in metamorphic rocks represents less than 10% of the total U resources. Included are production and resouce data, geology of ore deposits, mineralogy, ore controls and genesis. Each major mine, mining district or area is described. 31 figures.
