Oil and gas financing: an apraisal of current methods
- Texas A and M Univ., College Station
Cost of capital funds along with character of government regulations will be major determinants of the future availability of energy sources of all types, particularly oil and gas. A popular form of fund raising advocated by petroleum producers and by financial institutions that serve them is called project financing. Unlike straight-debt financing, project-financing is not principally secured by the general credit of the company that owns the project. Rather, the main security for this type of loan is the reserve to be developed and the income to be generated by the project itself. Project financing offers the industry hope in averting future capital shortages. Project financing techniques are discussed in this paper. (MCW)
