Gasification of biomass: gas purification. [Monograph]
A variety of gas-purification systems employed by the petroleum-refining and coal-gasification industries are reviewed and related to potential biomass-gasification applications. Particular attention has been given to those processes which upgrade the product gas in order to yield a chemical feedstock suitable for chemical synthesis or as a substitute natural gas. The removal of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, methane/hydrocarbons, water vapor, and nitrogen are discussed in some detail. For high-level applications such as chemical synthesis or substitute natural gas, it is recommended that nitrogen be removed prior to the gasification of biomass in a single-stage reactor. (i.e., oxygen or oxygen/steam gasification should be employed). The review is intended as an overview for those engineers and research scientists who are conceptualizing a complete biomass-gasification process to yield a high-quality-product gas. 30 references.
