The current status and 5-year research and development objectives are given for four geothermal geoscience research projects and for nine geothermal conversion projects which are part of the US DOE's Geothermal Energy Program. Research areas include: hydrothermal reservoirs; geopressured production and conversion; hot dry rock production and conversion; magma energy extraction and conversion; hard rock penetration; heat cycles; binary conversion technology; hybrid geothermal electric systems; materials; and low-enthalpy systems.
