Installation guidelines for solar domestic hot water systems

Participants in Solar Domestic Hot Water Systems programs, particularly those making their own installations, may take advantage of new installation guidelines that will help them avoid costly errors. The guidelines, prepared by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, are general in scope and must be supplemented by manufacturer's instructions and local codes for specific products. The HUD general guidelines cover site selection, building considerations, manuals, safety and health requirements, collector installation for both roof and ground mounting, and plumbing. Guidelines are also given on insulation for thermal and moisture protection, solar storage tank requirements, and electrical installations.
