Differential cross sections for the elastic scattering of 30 and 50 MeV {pi}{sup {minus}} by nuclei ranging from {sup 12}C to {sup 208}Pb have been measured using a range spectrometer. Comparison is made with the predictions of a recent optical-model calculation and the general nature of discrepancies is discussed.
