Reservoir trends, depositional environments, and petroleum geology of Cherokee sandstones in T11-13N, R4-5E, central Oklahoma. Part 2
The principal conclusions of this study are as given. Rocks of Pennsylvanian (Desmoines) Cherokee group are the oldest Pennsylvanian units in the study area; they unconformably overlie Mississippian limestone of Osagean age. The Cherokee group is composed of cylcic sequences of shales, sandstones, thin limestones, and at least one coastal coal bed. The transgressive limestones and coal with the intervening sandstone units constitute transgressive-regressive couplets. The most prominent structural feature, affecting lower Cherokee strata, is a fault zone, which is reflected by an En Echelon fault zone at the surface. Changes in interval thickness represent variations in sandstone development, differential compaction, reciprocity in sedimentation, and contemporaneous fault movement. All sandstones, except probably the Bartlesville, contain multistoried-multilateral sandstone bodies, which in detail show complex patterns of distribution. Inferred depositional environments of the 5 Cherokee sandstones in the study area are various elements of deltaic complexes.
