Models for freight tariff estimation

Models of freight tariffs may be useful both for analysis of tariff structures and for the generation of tariff rate estimates for use in research. Such models may be developed on an origin-destination and commodity abstract basis by using the attributes of the shipment and the commodity as independent variables. Examples of such models are calibrated using data from waybill samples and a commodity attribute file. The results demonstrate the feasibility of producing useful freight-tariff estimation models.
