Soybeans and acid deposition: analyses of dose-response data from field experiments

Journal Article · · J. Air Pollut. Control Assoc.; (United States)
Effects of acid deposition on several soybean varieties have been studied in field settings by many investigator and were used in a national-level assessment of the effect of changing acid deposition levels of soybean production across the US. Estimation of the impacts soybean production from current or projected acid deposition levels requires that dose-response data from a few sites and for a few varieties be applied over large geographic, temporal, and biologic space. To the extent that the dose-response relationships are not homogeneous across these variables, imprecisions and inaccuracies are introduced into the assessment process. Systematic error may also be introduced from fitting functionally incorrect dose-response models which produce false effects estimates. In response to these issues, this report updates previous efforts to examine homogeneity of response coefficients from field experiments among different experiments.
