Numerical approaches to heat-transfer problems are examined in an introductory text for senior and graduate engineering students. The emphasis is on the application of physical criteria in selecting the computational method. Chapters are devoted to the mathematics of the governing equations, finite differences, and finite elements; the simulation of transport processes; numerical methods for convective and radiative heat transfer; and combined modes and process applications. Graphs, diagrams, flow charts, problems, tables of material parameters, and sample computer programs are provided. 270 references.
