Induction phase method for localizing single-phase damage points in a cable line

Journal Article · · Sov. Power Eng. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6795761
The most frequent form of short circuit in three-phase underground cable power lines is a single-phase short-circuit, i.e., short circuiting of a wire against the cable casing. It is difficult to establish and accurately pinpoint single-phase short circuits in an underground power line. A new method for induction phase location of short circuits in underground power cables is described. The method was tested on 13 different power lines. Results of the tests are given.
