Higher efficiency goal of unusual rig layout

The unconventional layout of Jernigan Drilling Co.'s Rig 1 places the unitized and aligned mud system on the driller's side of the rig rather than the off side to produce a safe, clean, and efficient drilling operation. Cleared of all plumbing, wiring, and accessory equipment, the off side provides an uncluttered access to the rig floor. On the driller's side, crews can view both rig-floor and mud-system operations from the doghouse. The compact organization of equipment eases maintenance and reduces the crew's walking distance by having most controls and tool facilities close at hand on or near the rig floor.
