Computer simulation of the DUMAND optical array

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6791185
A Monte Carlo simulation of the DUMAND optical array shows that muons with energies greater than 0.5 TeV are detectable with better than 90% efficiency and have an angular resolution better than 15 mr and energy resolution of at least 50%. Hadronic cascades with at least 2 TeV are detectable with greater than 90% efficiency and have an energy resolution which improves with increasing energy and is better than 50% above 15 TeV. Simulation and reconstruction of the neutrino events expected in one year's operation show that an 80 GeV W-boson would be detectable with 10sigma precision in that time.
