Identification and decay of /sup 84/Zr

The helium-jet recoil transfer technique has been used to study the decay of /sup 84/Zr produced by the /sup 58/Ni(/sup 28/Si,2p) reaction. Isotopic identification was based on excitation functions, x-..gamma.. coincidences as well as genetic relationships. The half-life of /sup 84/Zr was found to be 27.6 +- 0.9 min. Previously reported half-lives of /sup 84/Zr varied from 3.7 to 16 min.
