Title: Renormalization of the forbidden beta transitions and giant forbidden beta resonances

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. C; (United States)

Experimental renormalization factors g/sub ..cap alpha..//sup eff//g/sub ..cap alpha../ for first forbidden ..beta.. transitions and experimental energies E/sub ..cap alpha..//sup GR/ for isovector mode giant resonances with ..delta..l = 1 are discussed in terms of the effective spin isospin interactions. Simple analytical forms for the g/sub ..cap alpha..//sup eff//g/sub ..cap alpha../ and the E/sub ..cap alpha..//sup GR/ are given. The observed values g/sub tau//sup eff//g/sub tau/approx. =0.3 for the vector transitions are consistent with the expectation based on such isospin interaction chi/sub tau/ as to reproduce the observed E/sub ..cap alpha..//sup GR/ for E1 ..gamma.. giant resonances. The values E/sub ..cap alpha..//sup GR/ for the ..delta..l = 1 giant resonances observed in (p,n) reactions are consistent with the value for the axial mode based on the spin isospin interaction chi/sub tausigma/ derived from the giant Gamow-Teller resonance energy. Precise comparison of the observed g/sub tausigma//sup eff//g/sub tausigma/ and the E/sub tausigma//sup GR/(p,n..delta..l = 1), however, revealed some finite inconsistency, indicating some ..delta..(1232) isobar effect and the tensor interaction effect.
