Conceptual design of an atmospheric fluidized-bed combustion electric power generating plant. Volume I. Interim report
The U.S. Department of Energy awarded a contract to Burns and Roe, Inc., in January 1977 for the Conceptual Design of an Atmospheric Fluidized-Bed Combustion (AFBC) Electric Power Generating Plant. Burns and Roe subsequently awarded a subcontract to Combustion Engineering, Inc., for the engineering and design of the AFBC steam generator and accessories. The results of this program indicate that fluidized-bed technology, as presently developed, offers a potential near term solution to the problems associated with the use of noncompliance coals that may be economically and technically attractive to the electric power utilities. Its successful implementation thus has great potential economic benefits to the industry as well as to the strategic interests of the country in reducing the dependence on petroleum products. Volume I of this Interim Report presents the background, objectives and scope of work for this program, as well as a detailed description of the program tasks.
