Scattering of light in multilayer atmospheres. II. The Milne problem

A semi-infinite plane atmosphere consisting of an arbitrary number of homogeneous layers of given optical thickness is considered. An effective algorithm for finding the radiation field at all optical depths is given for the Milne problem. The case when the medium consists of layers of large optical thickness is studied in detail separately. Corresponding simple asymptotic formulas are found.
