This article reviews the history of stratospheric ozone protection over the last 20 years and focuses on the regulations contained in the 1990 Clean Air Act amendments. Topics covered include the following: overview of Title VI of the Amendments requiring regulation of ozone-depleting substances; phase-out of production and consumption; reducing atmospheric release; product labeling provisions; safe alternatives and federal procurement; export regulations; EPA implementation.
