A wide range of thermal-hydraulic transients has been modeled with the RELAP5/MOD3.2 code for the Balakovo-4 plant, a VVER-1000 V320 plant located in Russia. The detailed RELAP5 model has been prepared by the Kurchatov Institute of Moscow, Russia, and modified at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Results of some of these transients include a comparison of RELAP5 results with data from two operational transients performed at the Kozloduy-5 plant and also at a VVER-1000 V320 located in Bulgaria. The reactors of the Balakovo and the Kozloduy plants are of similar design, both rated at 3000 MW(thermal), 1000 MW(electric). A detailed RELAP5 model of the Balakovo-4 plant, a VVER-1000, has been employed to simulate a wide variety of thermal-hydraulic transients. Some of the transients have been compared to data measured at operational transients at the Kozloduy plant, a similar VVER-1000 plant, showing good agreement. These transients have been employed to validate the RELAP5 model.
