The performance of desiccant dehumidifier air-conditioning systems using cooled dehumidifiers

Conference · · Am. Soc. Mech. Eng., (Pap.); (United States)

A generic model of a cooled dehumidifier suitable for use in estimating the seasonal performance of cooled desiccant dehumidifier air-conditioning systems is developed. A system configuration appropriate for using a cooled dehumidifier is presented. Estimates of the seasonal performance of the cooled system are presented and compared with adiabatic dehumidifier system performance. Both gas-fired and solar-assisted operations are considered. It is found that the cooled system can be competitive with the adiabatic ventilation system, particularly in solar-assisted applications if a high level cooled dehumidifier can be developed.
