Static solutions and equilibrium distributions of a gravitating fluid in general relativity. I - Plane symmetry

The general relativity of static V4 gravitational fields with planar symmetry is examined, along with the associated equilibrium distributions of a gravitating fluid for relativistic polytropic state equations. An exact static interior solution derived for the Einstein equations is shown to contain a singular Taub-Kasner vacuum source with a negative bare gravitational mass on the Z = 0 plane, on which the entire distribution of gravitating matter halts. The results demonstrate that General Relativity has no analog in Newtonian models of a planar, symmetric, equilibrium layer of a gravitating fluid. 19 references.
