This article examines the planning of owners of CFC-based chillers for retrofit, conversion and replacement of their machinery in order to cope with the international phaseout of the production of CFCs. The topics of the article include the impact of international agreements and pending US EPA policy, a description of owner strategies, refrigerant demand and supply, meeting conversion demand, CFC price pressure, HCFC production, a look at various retrofit/conversion situations, and chiller replacement.
