Municipal waste incinerators often employ the well-known Thermal Denox method of ammonia injection to reduce nitrogen dioxide emissions in stack effluents. Waste incinerators generate HCl during the combustion of plastics and other waste products. Because of the presence of these substances in emissions, concerns have been raised about their influence upon EPA's Method 101A (M101A) analytical procedure. This article describes the laboratory study designed to address these concerns. 6 refs., 1 fig., 2 tabs.
