Gas sampling system for reactive gas-solid mixtures

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6776729
This patent describes a method for sampling a gas containing a reactive particulate solid phase flowing through a duct and for communicating a representative sample to a gas analyzer. It comprises: situating a vertically orientated sample probe sheath so that it extends into the sample gas duct. The sample probe sheath having an angular opening at one end with the opening in the opposite direction of the gas flow; establishing a primary separation zone by providing a gas sampling probe partially extending into the sample probe sheath; situating a calibration probe which is connected to a calibration gas line to extend into the sample probe sheath substantially parallel to the gas sampling probe; aspirating the sample gas containing a reactive particulate solid phase into the primary separation zone; drawing the sample into the sample probe; delivering a representative sample through at least two filters to the gas analyzer; and maintaining a temperature range around a part of the gas sampling apparatus for minimizing reactions between the gas and solids.
