Direct coal-fired MHD power systems. Quarterly technical progress report, October-December 1983

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6773386
Progress is reported on the addition of components to the MHD test train in the CFFF and the analysis of data from the previous test series, designated LMF1. No testing was scheduled this quarter. Action was initiated to install the superheater test module and low temperature air heater. At the end of the quarter, all components were delivered on site and installed in place with the exception of one water-cooled section and the 180/sup 0/ elbow. The contract was awarded to install refractory on these components upgrading the refractory to a temperature rating of 2900/sup 0/F to permit testing with higher gas temperatures. A cold flow modeling effort for these components was also initiated to assist in data analysis of test results. Comments received from reviewers on the design report for the baghouse were resolved and procurement will be initiated on this component next quarter. Concurrently computer modeling of the electrostatic precipitator performance was initiated in preparation for finalizing the specifications for this component. Data analysis and modeling efforts are reported for the combustor, radiant furnace, materials test module, high pressure test sections and the nonintrusive diagnostic systems.
