Benchmarking of cycle 1 of Zion Unit 2 with NODE-P2 and NODETRAN

Conference · · Trans. Am. Nucl. Soc.; (United States)

Several significant improvements have been made to the Electric Power Research Institute's (EPRI's) Advanced Recycle Methodology Program (ARMP) package of computer codes in the past few years. These improvements include the addition of new capabilities that generate input data for transient analysis, a much higher degree of automation, and the incorporation of cross-section libraries derived directly from ENDF/B-V. The benchmarking of this improved package against measurements from cycle 1 of Zion Unit 2 constitutes the first reported comparison of calculations based on ENDF/B-V data with measured results from an operating-power reactor. The EPRI-PRESS package is employed in the improved ARMP system to generate the basic neutronics input both for the three-dimensional core simulator NODE-P2 and for the point kinetics and one-dimensional kinetics models in the RETRAN system's transient code. NODE-P2 is an improved version of EPRI-NODE-P with expanded capabilities, including moderator-temperature-history effects. Linkage to the kinetics models in RETRAN is provided by the NODETRAN code.
