Studies of geology and hydrology in the Basin and Range Province, Southwestern United States, for isolation of high-level radioactive waste

Geologic and hydrologic characteristics in the Sonoran region, Arizona, of the Basin and Range Province were examined to provide a basis for further study to identify prospective areas that may provide isolation of high-level radioactive waste from the accessible environment. The Sonoran region, Arizona, one of six regions selected, is characterized with respect to guidelines pertaining to: geology and potential host media; Quaternary tectonic conditions; ground-water hydrology,including Pleistocene hydrologic conditions; and mineral and energy resources.
