Standard test method for purity of hydrocarbons from freezing points
The sampling and determination of the purity of essentially pure compounds for which the freezing points for zero impurities and cryoscopic constants are well known are described. The method is described as it is specifically applied to each of the following compounds: n-butane, isobutane, n-pentane, isopentane, n-hexane, n-heptane, n-octane, 2,2,4-trimethylpentane, methylcyclohexane, isobutene, 1,3-butadiene, isoprene, benzene, toluene, o-xylene, m-xylene, p-xylene, and styrene. After measurement of the freezing point of the actual sample, purity can be calculated from the values given for the freezing point for zero impurity and for the applicable cyroscopic constants(s). Detailed diagrams of the apparatus are shown. (BLM)
