Characteristics of epigenetic uranium mineralization in jasper-quartzites

Journal Article · · Int. Geol. Rev.; (United States)
Uranium mineralization in jasper-quartzites are characterized by an exceptionally distinct spatial association with the margin of a graben-syncline.Although there is a large variation in the fundamental geologic-exploration parameters, a distinct relationship has been established between variation in productivity of the main orebodies dependent on distance from the margin and floor of the trough, the folded nature of the ore-surrounding jasper-quartzites and the latitudinal faults. The ore processes include the deposition of pitchblende in clear intergrowth with hematite. The pitchblende has a veinlet and very finely segregated aspect. A clear association has been recorded between pitchblende and hematite, and less frequently, a ferriferous chlorite. The mineralizing solutions of such deposits are ground waters which deposit the minerals when reducing conditions are encountered. (JMT)
