Comparative kinetic of reduction and sulfidation of zinc oxide and zinc titanate materials were carried out in a thermogravimetric apparatus over the temperature range of 600-1,000{degree}C (reduction) and 500-700{degree}C (sulfidation). both dry as well as wet (H{sub 2}O) reactant gas mixtures of H{sub 2}-N{sub 2} were used in reduction. For sulfidation, gas mixtures of H{sub 2}-H{sub 2}-S-N{sub 2} where tested. Sulfidation reactivity and reduction stability were correlated with active sorbent crystal phase, e.g. ZnO, Zn{sub 2}TiO{sub 4}, ZnTiO{sub 3}, and Zn{sub 2}Ti{sub 3}O{sub 8}. TiO{sub 2} addition into ZnO retarded reduction rate.
