Release of fission gases from oxide fuels (LWBR Development Program)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6761392
A quantitative analysis of the movement of fission-gas bubbles in solids by the mechanism of surface diffusion under a thermal gradient is presented. Interactions of the bubbles with dislocations and grain boundaries are invoked to develop a comprehensive scheme of fission-gas release in oxide fuel rods. A quantitative treatment which is in good accord with the limited experimental data which are available for carefully-controlled irradiation experiments is included. (NSA 24: 3049)
