Steel sliding and fiberglass insulation were added to the exterior and plan's uninsulated concrete block walls. Two 104-foot long double-glazed roof monitors were added to the existing plant roof. The roof was reinsulated to R-30 and reroofed. Insulating shutters within the roof monitors provide for light and heat control. Fans circulate air from the roof monitors into the building during winter and vent the building during summer. A solar hot water preheater is integrated into the roof monitors to provide for domestic and process water preheating. A 7,000 s.f. banking facility uses direct gain solar heating with night flushing and natural ventilation cooling. Concrete floors and masonry provide thermal mass. Double and triple glazing with fully operable shading devices provide for heat gain and light control. Auxiliary heating is provided by a wood/coal/oil combination furnance. Full wood handling facilities are designed into the facility.
