The task of keeping fissile material handlers current in their criticality safety certification, while necessary and important, can be extremely time consuming for the individuals involved and disruptive to the affected processes. At the Los Alamos Plutonium Facility, this problem has been partially solved by implementing a computer-assisted (CAI) recertification program. A brief description of the system, advantages and disadvantages of the system over the past safety meeting methods, changes in the system since its beginning, and plans for future improvements are presented in the paper.
