The use of retrofit ballast kits reduces costs for conversion to high-pressure-sodium lamps from incandescent and mercury-vapor. Over 70,000 Pacific Gas and Electric owned and customer-owned units have been converted. The program has reduced the street-light load by 31.4 MW and 128.9 GWh per year. It also has cut utility and customer outlay by over $5 million.
