Parametrization of the Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix and CP violation

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. D; (United States)
The Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix with four-generation quarks is found by introducing two small parameters lambda/sub k/ (lambda/sub 1/equivalentU/sub 12/,lambda/sub 2/equivalentU/sub 34/) and taking into account experimental and unitarity constraints. Based on this, we analyze the possible difficulties the first three generations may face in accounting for CP violation in the K/sup 0/-K-bar /sup 0/ system. The additional contribution of the fourth generation and some constraints on lambda/sub 2/, m/sub t//sub '/, and the four-generation CP-violating phases phi/sub i//sub j/ are discussed. From the measured value of the CP-violation parameter epsilon, the relation between phi/sub 14/ and phi/sub 24/ is depicted by the oval curve(s). Furthermore, the relations of the curve(s) to lambda/sub 2/, m/sub t//sub '/, and other parameters are investigated.
