Orientational anisotropy of the upper critical field in single-crystal YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7/ and Bi/sub 2. 2/CaSr/sub 1. 9/Cu/sub 2/O/sub 8+//sub x/

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. B: Condens. Matter; (United States)

We have measured the dependence of the upper critical magnetic field upon orientation for single-crystal samples of YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7/ and Bi/sub 2.2/CaSr/sub 1.9/Cu/sub 2/O/sub 8+//sub x/ via four-probe resistance. We find continuous behavior of H/sub c//sub =/(theta) for small deviations from parallel orientation for the Y sample, as expected for an anisotropic, three-dimensional superconductor. For the Bi sample, however, our data are more consistent with a thin-film model, exhibiting a cusp at parallel orientation, suggesting that Bi/sub 2.2/CaSr/sub 1.9/Cu/sub 2/O/sub 8+//sub x/ is a quasi-two-dimensional system.
