Preparation and evaluation of fiber metal nickel battery plaques. Report 805. [Huyck Metals Co. , Milford, Conn]

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6748751
Flexible fiber metal plaques can be produced with internal surface areas greater than 500 cm/sup 2//g, tensile strengths greater than 300 psi, porosities of 90% or greater, and electrical resistivities of 400 microhm-cm or less. Although not all of the values indicated above can be achieved in the same plaque, sufficient data are presented to permit an evaluation of the effect of processing parameters upon the plaque characteristics and to indicate which fiber characteristics should be varied to optimize specific plaque properties. A new fiber type was developed to maximize the internal surface area and porosity. It is anticipated that this material can be processed into plaques with greater than 90% porosity and with an internal surface area in excess of 800 cm/sup 2//g.
