Aperture effects on atmospheric turbidity measurements

Journal Article · · Sol. Energy; (United States)
The effect of the aperture geometry of sunphotometers on the measurement of aerosol optical thickness in the atmosphere is examined. Under low turbidities, the optical thickness derived from observations made with instruments of different aperture geometry are identical, whereas under large turbidities, the thickness obtained using large aperture instruments is larger. On cloudy days, the small aperture instruments give larger turbidities. (SPH)
