Two stage process for catalytic conversion of olefins to higher hydrocarbons

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6744431
This patent describes a process for converting a feedstock ethylene by catalytic oligomerization to produce heavier hydrocarbons in the gasoline or distillate boiling range. It comprises: contacting the feedstock in a first catalytic reactor zone with a siliceous crystalline molecular sieve at an elevated temperature within the range of about 285{degrees} C. to about 425{degrees} C. and a relatively low ethylene partial pressure within the range of about 0.5 to about 5 atmospheres under conditions which maximize: ethylene conversion and selectivities to propylene, butylenes and normally liquid C{sub 5}{sup +} hydrocarbons; separating the effluent stream to produce a normally liquid C{sub 5}{sup +} hydrocarbon fraction and a fraction comprising C{sub 3}--C{sub 4} olefins.
