Manufacture of water gas or gas consisting largely of carbon monoxide and hydrogen

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6742077
This patent describes a cyclic process for the manufacture of water gas or the like by passing air and reaction gas upwardly through the generator and blasting the fuel bed used for uprun gas making. The said air and reaction gas is first preheated in a recuperator by heat exchange with the product gases of their respective passage through the generator. The process continues by passing the said product gases through a regenerator on their way to the recuperator, reducing in extent cyclic fluctuations in the temperature of the product gases entering the said recuperator. The final process involves passing reaction gas for backrun through part of the regenerator disposed nearest to the generator without directly cooling the remaining part of the mass nearest to the recuperator and then passing it downwardly through the fuel bed.
